What This Means for Routing
I-5 ROSE QUARTER CLOSURES
STARTING SEPTEMBER 11 · 5–7 WEEKS · INTO FALL 2026

Heads up on a major road project that’s about to affect dispatching and routing in the Portland area.

Starting September 11, ODOT is closing I-5 southbound between I-405 and I-84 as part of the Rose Quarter Improvement Project — a repair of a 2-mile stretch of the highway to improve safety and reduce congestion. This is expected to run 5–7 weeks, into fall 2026.

WHAT TO EXPECT

I-5 Southbound Full Closure

Complete closure between I-405 and I-84, 24/7, for up to five weeks starting September 11. One lane stays open from the I-405 junction to the Broadway/Weidler exit for local access.

Local Street Closures

Sidewalk and lane closures near the Oregon Convention Center (NE Oregon Street, N Interstate Ave, NE Lloyd Blvd) for seismic upgrades and sign structure work.

I-84 Off-Ramp Closures

Occasional closures of the I-84 off-ramp to NE Holladay St near the Moda Center and the Oregon Convention Center for sign structure work.

Nighttime & Shoulder Closures

Occasional nighttime lane closures and possible shoulder closures on I-5 to construct stormwater facilities, sign structure installation, and I-5 bridge preservation.

DETOUR ROUTES

The main detour for I-5 southbound traffic is via I-405

Access to I-84 eastbound remains open

I-5 northbound stays open at the Broadway on-ramp

Why This Matters for Us

This will likely affect delivery windows and routing through the Rose Quarter / Convention Center area for the full closure period. Worth building in extra time for any deliveries that would normally route through this stretch, and considering the I-405 detour as the default alternate.

How Star Oilco Can Keep Your Fleet Moving

Major corridor closures like the I-5 Rose Quarter project mean traffic delays, rerouted trips, and lost operational hours for Portland fleets. Star Oilco offers flexible fueling solutions so your drivers can bypass pump lines and stay on schedule:

Overnight Wet-Hose Fueling: We top off your trucks and equipment at your yard while they sit idle, ensuring your fleet is 100% fueled and ready before morning shifts start.

On-Site Fuel Storage & Tank Rentals: Avoid detour delays by keeping fuel directly at your job site. We deliver bulk fuel directly to your existing equipment—or supply on-site rental tanks tailored to your project size.

Seamless Logistics & RFS Compliance: Whether you need standard diesel or compliant renewable fuel blends, we handle the delivery logistics so you can focus on navigating traffic and deadlines.

Set up a custom fueling schedule and keep your operations moving through construction season.
